Opole Philharmonic Choir

In accord with the previous glamorous musical heritage of Opole Philharmonic Choir, directed in the past by such conductors as Jan Ludwig, Lucjan Laprus and Bogdan Gola, in 2007 the choir was brought to life once again under the artistic leadership of Bartosz Zurakowski.

Established in 1957 by Jan Ludwig Opole Philharmonic Choir has always been well recognized among the local community and other parts of Poland and Europe.

The choir has participated in various prestigious festivals: International Wratislavia Cantans Festival of Oratorio and Cantata Music, Oratorio Days of Opole Region, Elsner’s Days and Days of Polish Music.

An important role in the development of the choir played international tournées. Due to a well established position, the choir has received numerous invitations from such places as International Music Festival in Potsdam (Germany, 1973) and Italian cities: Bormio, Piazzade Garalii, L’Aquiilla, Rovigo, Rome, Ferrara, San Nicandro, Mola Bari, Molfetta, Barletta (1980, 1981).

From the very beginning the Opole Philharmonic Choir has performed music of various genre and forms, such as: a cappella and vocal works – instrumental music and also music of different eras and styles from classical and popular to secular and sacred music.

On the 9th of November 2007,  Opole Philharmonic Choir, inaugurated its re-establishment by performing Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 during a special concert of Opole Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestro Boguslaw Dawidow.

The repertoire of Opole Philharmonic Choir conducted by Bartosz Zurakowski comprises such pieces of music as Beethoven Symphony No. 9, Puccini Messa di Gloria, Gounod Messe Solennelle de Sainte Cécile, Brahms Requiem, Opera Gala – Viva Verdi, Szymanowski Litany to the Virgin Mary for female chorus and Polish Carols.

Currently the choir is preparing: Szymanowski Stabat Mater, Rossini Petite messe solennelle, Nowowiejski Missa pro pace and vocal – instrumental pieces of music of Elsner.

At present Opole Philharmonic Choir consists of 80 people. The choir performs in formal attire made by Pierre Cardin/PARIS and is sponsored by Ahlers – Poland company.
